What is stocktaking?
Stocktaking is the
physical count of products actually held in stock as a basis for
verification of the stock records and accounts. Stocktaking is essential for
understanding profitability as well as identifying theft or stock loss
through waste/short deliveries etc.
Why do I need to stocktake?
By not stocktaking, you will be ignoring potential losses that can be
occurring every day in your business. Stocktaking highlights individual
variances in beverage stocktakes, wastage and stock losses in the kitchen
and stock loss values in retail outlets. If you have never had an
independent stocktake in your business, we recommend you commission a number
of stocktakes over a month or so to understand if there are problems in your
business. If the results yield no discrepancies you will have piece of mind,
however if discrepancies are identified, then Stocktaking.ie will be able to
recommend a suitable course of action to eliminate stock loss.
Who are stocktaking.ie?

provide ancillary services as a result of the findings of a stocktake.

I have a good manager, why can (s)he not conduct the stocktake for me?
While you may trust your manager completely, as a rule we recommend that any
person who has a hand in ordering or serving the stock should not be
involved in a stocktake as there is always the risk that stock quantities
could be increased on paper to account for breakages or theft. An
independent stocktake will report the findings "as is" and will make
recommendations as a result. It is in our interest as well as yours to
report the results independently and without agenda.
How can I be assured that my sensitive business information will remain
confidential?
Since launching in 2004, Stocktaking.ie has built a solid reputation
as a discreet, professional provider of stocktaking services and accurate
reports. Many of our clients have been using our services since our first
stocktake with them in 2004 and we are aware that we are only as reputable
as our last stocktake. We encourage you to contact any of our
Clients to ask
about our services. Your confidential business information will always
remain exactly that. Confidential.
I have a stocktaker at the moment but would like to compare your services
We prefer not to undertake what we call "tandem" stocktakes whereby both
stocktakers undertake the count separately on the same day and compile
reports with the results being compared. The reason we do not like this
method is that invariably the counts will yield different results as we
weigh every open and partial item, take down all cases, full or empty to
check for contents and empty all fridges/freezers to examine stock. We
prefer instead to refer you to any of our clients to gauge their levels of
satisfaction with our services.
What do
Stocktaking.ie charge for their services?
Because every business is different, it is difficult to quote without
understanding your business, however, after a brief telephone conversation
we will be better positioned to give you a free estimate. Our fee structure
is based on whether an auditor needs to be assigned to your premises for a
half day or a full day. Providing all relevant paperwork is available on
arrival and the stores and shelves are all in order and prepared for a
stocktake, we can usually undertake the stocktake of a standard bar in half
a day, while food & beverage stocktakes normally take a full day.

How
often should I have a stocktake?
We recommend you have stocktaking undertaken until you are satisfied that
your profit margins are in line with expectations, that waste and stock
shrinkage have been reduced to an acceptable level and that your staff are
aware that you are intent on controlling costs in your business. In
addition, we guarantee that if you don't need our services any longer, once
you have reduced wastage and shrinkage and reached your targets, then we
will be the first to advise you to use our services less frequently. We
exist to save you money and add profit to your bottom line.
I have a food & beverage stocktaker at the moment. Why should I change to
your services?
If your stocktaker provides you with itemised variance and profit reports on
site on the day of the stocktake after weighing all partial bottles,
weighing all food products as well as sitting down with you to use the
results as a starting point to set goals for the future and targets for
profitability, and is available any time to discuss your business and
concerns, then you shouldn't change your stocktaker at all.
